Havant

Between Chichester and Portsmouth approximately midway, Havant (/ˈh vənt/ HAV-ənt) is in Hampshire's corner that is south east, England. Written on Havant parchment was Treaty of Versailles. Known as Havant Arts Centre, the old town hall houses The Spring Arts & Heritage Centre.

Havant is served by Havant bus station. Referring to the spring to the south-west of St Faith's Churchyard, Havant was known as (the spring of Hama) 'Hamafunta' around 935AD, and a settlement was made at the crossing point of tracks from Downs to the coast and another east-west along the coast. Havant was a village with a population of around 100 in 1086 (at the Domesday Book).

Leaving the cottages of the late 16th or early 17th century and the adjacent church, in 1760 much of Havant by fire was destroyed. Until the post office in East Street opened in 1936 (one of a handful with the brief King Edward VIII's cypher in the UK above the entrance), by 1768 Havant had its postmaster trading from various offices. On South Coastway line, Havant Junction is significant.

For this direct predecessor to the borough in 1961, the population rose in 'Urban District of Havant and Waterloo' to 74,552 from 26,367 in 1939. The College of Havant with South downs college was merged. Havant is home to a rifle and pistol club.

Angel Radio, the radio station that is local, which specialises in pre-1960s era music, is in Havant. In the 20 years following World War II, a conversion period of land from woodland and agriculture to housing across the region following the Portsmouth bombing that was incendiary and the Blitz, population and housing more than doubled under either Havant definition. Havant suffered an earthquake, and a similar event occurred on 30 November 1811 on 25 October 1784.

Stagecoach in Hampshire and First Hampshire & Dorset are the Bus services operators and from Havant go as far afield as Waterlooville, Fareham, Brighton, Hayling Island, and Southsea. Though in shared ownership there has been an increase that is slow with, since 2000, the authority properties constructed, Havant's other wards, of homogeneity, continue to demonstrate a high degree in terms of housing type. The Hockey Club of Havant are winners of the Men's Hockey League in England, and for rugby the town by Havant RFC is represented (founded 1951).
